I spent a year visiting the ancient woodland of Burton Bushes in Beverley, painting en plein air. My aim was to create a collection of paintings which described the year in terms of seasonally relevant plants. This picture shows an old oak, a path passes it. Like a lot of woodland paths this one is indistinct to most people. My constant visits made me familiar with them and here I was struck by a fluorescent green on a damp part of the path. The green was unusually bright, seemingly illuminated. It was both strange and fascinating.
