Set off quite early and visited Cherry Burton to post a parcel and to deliver my sketchbook book to Cherry Burton School to add to their school library. I hope the pupils like it and maybe be inspired to draw. After leaving Cherry I traveled without any plan, heading north towards the Wolds. I stopped at Wetwang where the warrior Queen's elaborate burial site was discovered. Driving to the north and looking over the rolling hills I could see a lighter, straw coloured band of grass which turned and disappeared. Later a local man told me how it was the old disused rail track and he remembered seeing trains pass when he was a boy at a nearby farm. There is a group of rail enthusiasts who are setting up a line from the Fimber roundabout, and I am now guessing and hoping that when the line is finished it will once again pass below. The sun was hot and I sat George in the shade with a wetted towel to help keep him cool.
